1987 Chevrolet Suburban Silverado | 350V8 2WD - $20,998

This 1987 Chevrolet Suburban Silverado combines classic squarebody styling with a lowered stance, staggered 20-inch wheels, and an extensive list of recent mechanical and comfort upgrades.

The weathered tan and brown two-tone finish gives it plenty of character, while the chrome bumpers, roof rack, and Silverado trim retain the familiar appearance of Chevrolet’s full-size family hauler. The U.S. Mags Santa Cruz wheels and lowered suspension give the long Suburban body a particularly good stance.

A rebuilt 700R4 automatic transmission, updated steering and suspension components, front and rear air conditioning, and Bluetooth audio round out the package. 95,000 original miles, with the recent work completed at Hollands Automotive.

Mechanical Work & Drivetrain

The Suburban has received substantial attention to its mechanical systems. Recent work includes a new power-steering pump, belts, passenger-side exhaust manifold, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and an upgraded GM starter. A Mechman 320-amp alternator has also been installed with larger charging wiring and battery cables.

The 700R4 automatic transmission has been rebuilt and fitted with a Corvette shift servo. A new 4-inch aluminum driveshaft from Automotive Driveline Supply is installed.

The exhaust uses a single system feeding a Magna Flow muffler with dual tips at the rear bumper.

The owner reports that the Suburban runs and shifts very well, has received regular oil changes, and does not consume oil. It was also driven on a trip to Arizona before the suspension was lowered.

Suspension, Steering & Wheels

The lowered stance comes from a combination of CPP upper and lower control arms, Western Chassis drop spindles, lowering springs, Belltech front drop shocks, and rear lowering shackles. The rear retains factory shocks, and one leaf has been removed from the rear spring pack. The removed leaf is included.

The front end has received new MOOG components and joints, along with a Lares quick-ratio power-steering gearbox. New rotors, calipers, and wheel bearings have also been installed.

Staggered 20-inch U.S. Mags Santa Cruz wheels with Lexani tires complete the setup. The owner reports approximately 1,500 miles on the suspension and wheel updates.

Interior & Comfort

Inside, the Suburban combines its familiar squarebody layout with several useful updates. The front seats are described as very clean, the dashboard presents well, and the power windows and door locks are reported to work.

A factory-appearing RetroSound radio adds Bluetooth connectivity, accompanied by four new speakers. New front and rear glass and ceramic window tint are additional improvements.

The Vintage Air front and rear air-conditioning setup includes new lines running to the rear of the vehicle. The rear A/C currently operates through a toggle switch installed after the original control switch failed. The factory connector remains behind the dash for an owner who would like to return it to the original style of control.

Brand-new carpet for the rear cargo area is included and still needs to be installed. The third-row seat is not included.

Exterior & Character

The weathered paint and imperfections in the tan and brown finish give this Suburban an amazing patina, adding character that perfectly complements its lowered stance and classic squarebody styling. Chrome bumpers, replacement exterior trim and mirrors, and the roof rack complement the classic two-tone color combination.

For someone looking for a lowered squarebody with room for passengers and cargo, this Suburban offers a distinctive look backed by substantial recent work. The overdrive transmission, front and rear A/C, updated audio, and extensive chassis improvements make it an appealing candidate for weekend cruising and local shows.
